Microsoft to withdraw a number of qualifications and exams
Microsoft has announced that it is to withdraw a number of Microsoft qualifications and exams being by the end of July 2014.
What qualifications are being withdrawn?
The MCITP qualification is being phased out, with the majority of MCITP qualifications being withdrawn. The MCITP qualification relates to older Microsoft technologies, which are no longer relevant due to new Microsoft technologies being introduced.
The two major exams that are relevant to ITAM that are being withdrawn are the Designing and Providing Volume Licensing Solutions to Small and Medium Organisations (70-671) and the Designing and Providing Volume Licensing Solutions to Large Organisation exams (70-672).
When will they be withdrawn?
The majority of exams and qualifications will be withdrawn on the 31st July 2014 according to the Microsoft Learning website. These exams haven’t been updated since 2009, so I agree that it makes sense for Microsoft to withdraw them as they may no longer be relevant. This is owing to changes in Microsoft licensing models and the introduction of a number of new products.
What is replacing these exams?
The Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) is replacing the MCITP qualification. This qualification is significantly more up-to-date and will hold a lot more value than the out-dated MCITP qualification. As of yet there is no news regarding alternatives for the Volume Licensing exams.
If you wish to do either of the volume licensing exams, you need to ensure you book your exam date for before the 31st July! However, I personally wouldn’t recommend taking the course as it is out-dated and irrelevant, especially as Microsoft has changed its licensing structures and volume licensing models.
