Welcoming AJ Witt to The ITAM Review

AJ Witt, ITAM Industry Analyst at The ITAM Review

We are thrilled to announce our latest addition to the ITAM Review team – AJ Witt joins us as ITAM Industry Analyst this week.

Previous to joining the ITAM Review team, AJ was Software Asset Manager for Carnival UK, operators of the P&O & Cunard cruise lines. Coming from a background in IT Infrastructure technical operations IT Security & Compliance, AJ is well-placed to share his experience of how dynamic SAM teams can build mutually-beneficial stakeholder engagement. AJ lives close to the New Forest National Park and enjoys cycling when his son isn’t keeping him busy with music, astronomy, and art projects.

In his new role with the ITAM Review, AJ will be taking the lead on all technology and service provider reviews, contributing SAM tool Best Practise content to LISA and providing comment and analysis on industry trends.

We asked AJ his thoughts on the current challenges facing SAM professionals:

“Getting to grips with the pace of change in infrastructure and application delivery. Rather like the growth of virtualisation technologies License Agreements and SAM Tools aren’t currently fit for purpose for dealing with “Everything As A Service” as we move towards software-defined datacenters, Edge Computing, DevOps, and Internet of Things.

The other challenge I see is attracting young professionals to the field. I firmly believe that a SAM role early in an IT career is the best way to accelerate your prospects if you want to reach C-Suite level in an IT Organisation. No other role allows you to be gain a deep understanding of your environment, be involved in new projects from day one, and expose you to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning. Starting as an ITAM Analyst will provide you with the knowledge to either stay in the field or branch out into Architecture, Business Analysis, Procurement, or Programme Management”.

Look out for more from AJ on the above topics and other industry news and developments.

AJ will be attending all three of our upcoming conferences, taking place in Surrey UK, Sydney Australia and South Florida, US and will be presenting interactive sessions on how to engage your IT Security Team and fund your SAM program.

“I’m really looking forward to hearing how our delegates have engaged key stakeholders around their business. My session on leveraging the current focus on IT Security/Compliance to fund your SAM programme I hope will foster that conversation. As a former hands-on SAM Manager I’ll also be listening with interest to David Foxen’s session on ITAM as a Service. There is a great opportunity for SAM professionals to be true heroes with a measurable impact on the ability of IT departments to deliver, rather than be seen bureaucrats getting in the way of change”.

Come and meet AJ at one of our global events! Find out more here.
