ISO/IEC 19770-1 certification reaches validation phase

One of the founding goal’s of The ITAM Forum has been to create the world’s first ISO/IEC 19770-1 certification. The ISO/IEC 19770-1 certification will help the ITAM industry as a whole gain more attention, investment and credibility, helping our industry mature into the trusted, respected and valued business partner it should be in every organisation. These are goals we can get behind at the ITAM Review.

Progress on the certification scheme has been fast. In June 2021 the ITAM Forum announced the appointment of NEN, the Dutch Standardization Institute, as secretariat, and invited people to join its Committee of Experts to help shape the first draft. Today it has announced another significant milestone; the draft scheme is now written and has reached the “validation phase,” the final phase before launching to the market as a fully-fledged scheme that organisations around the world can be certified against.

The validation phase will see a number of organisations go through the full certification process from start-to-finish. Their feedback will be used to help iron out any issues that can only be found when the scheme is tested in the real-world. These organisations will gain “ISO/IEC 19770-1 certification” upon completion. Brand Compliance, an independent external certification body, has been appointed to perform the conformity assessments.

Martin Thompson, founder of the ITAM Forum, comments, “Two years ago we started the ITAM Forum with a blank sheet of paper. Now we are on the verge of launching the world’s first, globally-recognized certification scheme for ITAM – the ISO/IEC 19770-1 certification.

Establishing a global standard for ITAM compliance is one of the main reasons we started the ITAM Forum. I am very proud of the support we’ve received from our patrons, trustees and the wider ITAM community as we reach the final steps in bringing this world’s first certification to market. I want to personally thank everyone who has given their time to help shape and draft the scheme. Without this help, we would not be where we are today.”

Scheme due to launch in the summer 2022

The ITAM Forum intends to launch the final, approved scheme to the market during summer 2022. It is inviting organisations  who wish to explore certification to register their interest.

According to the ITAM Forum, “Certifying against the scheme will give businesses an unbiased, independent, globally-accepted quality stamp for their ITAM practice. This will assure them and their partners, customers and stakeholders that they meet the highest ITAM standards in the world.”

Last week we reported that “Raising the profile of ITAM” was identified as the top benefit of ISO/IEC 19770-1 certification, according to a poll of ITAM Forum members.
