ITAM Permeating the Enterprise

Interestingly, our 5,000th subscriber David is an Enterprise Architect with ITAM background and CSAM qualified.

I was asked to speak at a SoftCat SAM seminar last week regarding licensing trends and SAM today, one of my points (see slide deck below) was that the role of ITAM is to ‘whisper in the ear of the CIO’ and ‘stand shoulder to shoulder with Architects and Project Managers’ to help make decisions using ITAM business intelligence (rather than attempting to clear up the compliance mess afterwards).

At the UK Oracle User Group License Management event in London this week Jo McKenzie, License Manager at Britvic gave a great presentation and SAM case study on the influence of good SAM practice across different IT departments (Jo also owns Change and Config). Similarly, with my work with the London Borough of Islington last year the software licensing manager sat on the Change Board.

ITAM is essentially a governance process – but it’s great to see ITAM data and practices permeating the enterprise proactively with positive effect.
