Oracle Verified Tools – Market Guide

Just published is our guide to the small market for Oracle-verified inventory tools. Oracle-verified tools inventory Oracle Database deployments to a level that will satisfy Oracle LMS during an audit. Oracle haven’t verified any new tools for a number of years and market leaders such as Snow are notable in their absence.

So, should you base your SAM tool selection on whether it is verified by Oracle? Probably not argues Richard Spithoven from Oracle license management specialists B.Lay. He sees the main advantage of using an Oracle-verified tool is that you don’t need to run Oracle LMS-supplied scripts under audit conditions. By using a verified tool you get the same raw data from your tool as those scripts would produce. With this process under your control you can potentially work towards generating an Effective License Position for your Oracle Database estate without the involvement of Oracle or a third-party Oracle expert.

However, this is just raw data – a verified tool will not perform any analysis or suggest optimisations. It won’t find non-database products that Oracle will likely attempt to include in an audit engagement. And it won’t discover the underlying hardware configuration which is so important to understanding Oracle license requirements.

Whilst included in this guide are market leaders including Aspera & Flexera it is important that the tool you select is also able to manage the rest of your non-Oracle estate to your desired standard. Give plenty of consideration to what you want your tool to do and ensure that the Oracle-verified tool you select is able to meet those requirements. Refer to our SAM Tool Selection Toolkit for help with this process.

As the Market Guide states, the market is currently stagnant. However, we have heard that Oracle are restarting their verification programme, so potentially your existing toolset may become verified. If you are using one of the tools listed in this guide please consider submitting a review on our Market Place – https://bit.ly/ITAMTools will take you direct to the reviews page. It should only take you a few minutes and your feedback is invaluable to your fellow professionals.
