Having used other SAM tools, Snow License Manager falls well below expectations. Why can’t I assign a license to more than one application? Why can I not see minor version numbers for application? Why does the predefined software recognition process for non agent inventory skip data critical for license purposes?
Pros
None that I can find when compared with other tools
Cons
Clumsy interface
Inflexible configuration
Lack of integration with non agent inventory feeds
Still working through our implementation of Snow Adoption Tracker, Inventory Manager, License Manager. We uncovered some issues which, when brought to their teams awareness, garnered their R&D responsiveness well. The SRS service is more robust than CA SAM, and Snow’s catalog far exceeds the latter, but I question some of the normalizations that occur, and do not have the ability to see the raw data that made the discoveries to discern false positives or not. I’ll update this review once we’re out out pre-production and full-tilt into using SLM.
It is first tool I use, so I do not have a comparison. By my opinion, it is very good in data collection – both physical and virtual server environment (not in use for end user PC’s). Agents works seamlessly, data collection is reliable and accurate. It can get virtualization clusters configurations via connectors.
But I still have problem to get license compliance directly from the tool. I am not able to license just part of the cluster in the virtual environment, so “required” licenses are way to higher then reality.
I use Excel for final license position calculations. SNOW can very easily export almost any data to *.xls. Also import capabilities are great – for example if you want to add custom fields and fill them up from you CMDB.
I was able to connect SNOW quite easily to Power BI to do automatic cross checks against AD and CMDB.
It greatly improved infrastructure visibility. Happy to have it!
Pros
Good data collection
Reliable agent
Connectors for virtualization platforms (vmware, hyper-v, ...)
Ability to integrate wit other tools (import, export, ...)
Cons
It is hard to get compliance directly from the tool
Management of agreements and licenses you bought is somewhat clumsy
It feels the continuous improvement. A lot of updates are constantly published.
Cons
Barely able to load complex reports
No true report builder, custom reports fails to load
Completely unuseful unrecognized evidence application creator (it is slow, and only accessible through the server, where I cannot provide access due to GDPR to my APAC regional staff)
Very poor customer support
Saas application recognition is non-customizable
You need to be an excel guru to create license balances
The SNOW tool does a great job of providing reporting on a daily bases as well as historical data as needed. When looking at computers that are reporting in it is intuitive to motion between the reporting boards. We have found that this tool provides invaluable data when coming to usage reporting and have been able to show a positive ROI after just 3 months of having the agent loaded on our devices. License management and usage monitoring is a key area where SNOW really shines. I would recommend this tool for ITAM Teams looking for Software coverage down to the individual software on a users device.
Easy and quick to implement, however the company really let themselves down on the customer service and support sides – the length of time it can take to even get a response is dire.
Snow SLM is easy to use and its intuitive reports highlight cost saving and cost avoidance opportunity right out f the box. Reports are easy to configure and customise to meet you business needs too.
The team at Snow are brilliant. Their knowledge on SAM is second to none, they are responsive and friendly during all interactions I have ever had with them. A great team to have onboard!
This tool is so intuitive to use but it needs some improvement yet, for example for standard reports they should do a better link beetween hardware and software, we could extract report seens all computers and software on this computers as we had in Altiris.
The Product is stable once installed and properly configured. Update process is relatively easy compared to other products. Stable recognition services especially signatures from non-windows system. The product provides excellent connectors for VMWare and other SaaS products. Robust reconciliation engines.
Solution which looks good and is good only on slide deck. Pretty easy to use, UI&UX look good. Highest grade for that.
Have to mention that the agent and the inventory part is one of the best on the market.
However, once you start working with the product it simply doesn’t work. Business logic, responsible for license and compliance is quite buggy. Slides promise everything and a lot of automation. Once you start working with Tier1 vendors in Snow you’ll see that they lack lots of functionalities and 50% of the stuff there doesn’t work. Company simply grew to quick and their development is rather poor quality. Guys on support do their maximum, but simply can’t follow anymore poor coding and constant updates which don’t provide solutions. Sometimes we had tickets open for month+ ¸before someone reached to us and gave us the first reply.
Snow is quite expensive for the value that currently delivers.

Poor and slow support, slow development roadmap, poor responses to product enhancement requests, inflexible pricing. Value-add is lacking.
