Flexera Acquires SCCMExpert.com

Enterprise SAM specialists Flexera Software have announced the acquisition of SCCMExpert.com. System Center is a growing, popular platform and many SAM tool vendors are generating good business by leveraging SCCM data.

Whilst reviewing vendors for my upcoming SCCM plugins review – one popular SAM tool vendor stated that 80% of their new business stemmed from sitting their solution on top of the System Center stack.

This acquisition fills a gap in the Flexera portfolio – a self-service portal with tight integration with SCCM – an ‘App Store’ for the Enterprise. Providing users with a shop front of available applications, Amazon style, with the ability to squirt software down to the desktop on demand.

The ability to click and deliver new software is not a new concept – but the ability to add licensing savvy into the equation is a great step forward. It moves the SAM conversation beyond periodic true-up behaviour to on-going built-in efficiency. This won’t take away the requirement for true-ups and compliance statements, but it means that when you do have to perform a check the efficiency and best use of available licensing is already accounted for.

This functionality also rises up to meet the growing demand of users, who are growing used to instant Internet gratification. I want software and I want it yesterday. I want to see where my software request is in the process and I want an email stating my parcel has shipped.
