Oracle to meet Campaign for Clear Licensing

The Campaign for Clear Licensing held an Oracle roundtable at the Home Office today. The objective was to discuss issues regarding Oracle licensing and audit behaviour.

In attendance today were:

  • Representatives from 3 countries
  • Public and Private Sector
  • Independent SAM practitioners and end user organizations
  • 6 x FTSE 100 Companies

The next step is to take a summary of key concerns and priorities to Oracle next month, with a view to beginning a long-term constructive dialogue.

Giving Software Buyers a Voice

The CCL began last year to provide a collective voice for software buyers to raise concerns over license programs and auditing without jeopardizing their broader relationship with suppliers.

Top priorities for CCL members include:

  • Software audit processes
  • Clarity regarding license programs
  • Communications regarding changes to license programs

The CCL aims to support the development of better relationships between customers, software publishers and resellers via constructive, evidence-based feedback.

Oracle is the first publisher to collaborate with the CCL with a view to building on-going positive dialogue and a neutral feedback mechanism for the market.

Jonathan Koop, Vice President, Global License Management Services at Oracle Corporation said:

This is a great opportunity to minimize the ‘them and us’ approach that exists across much of the market and encourage responsible software publishers and informed customers. All business today is dependent on software and licensing is how we transact and deliver that software. It is time to encourage trust and openness in licensing programs. We look forward to working with Oracle to improve working relationships and clarity regarding licensing.
