Modular Approach to ISO/IEC 19770-1
The working group (WG21) supporting the SAM process standard for Software Asset Management (ISO/IEC19770-1:2006) is proposing to break implementation of the standard into manageable chunks to aid successful implementation.
Krzysztof (Chris) Baczkiewicz states; “Many people like the Part-1 outcomes, saying they are a strong basis, but too much to handle in one step”
The group proposes a modular approach:
1. Trustworthy Data – (I know what I have and I’m compliant)
2. Control Environment – (I have controls in place to manage my IT Assets)
3. Key Operation Processes – (I have core processes embedded in my business e.g. Contract management, Procurement, Deployment and Retirement)
4. Full Conformance (I tick all the boxes and enjoy lasting benefits of ISO/IEC 19770-1)
