Take part: Help develop the ISO 19770 Implementation Guide!

Back in December 2020, the voluntary group that creates the 19770 family of standards asked for feedback from the ITAM community as it began developing guidance for how to implement ITAM. See “Poll reveals strong interest in 19770 certification.”

Specifically, the request was, what kind of guidance is needed? Feedback was specifically important from those not involved with ITAM standards. A big thank you to everyone who provided their thoughts and suggestions.

A lack of implementation guidance is often mentioned as a key barrier to the uptake of 19770 so the group developing this guidance wants to deliver what the market (and practitioners in particular) truly wants.

With the feedback it received, this group has now produced a draft implementation guide that targets those with a base-level understanding of ITAM who wish to improve their ITAM practice.

Please provide feedback on the initial draft

Please read the draft table of contents and provide feedback via the online form.

An online survey to gather feedback on this draft, which includes a table of content and bullet points for content, is now live and feedback is requested. By providing feedback, you are directly helping the development of the ITAM standard 19770 and the future of the ITAM industry. If you wish to get involved in this project you can express your interest via the same form.

Deadline for feedback is the 30th June.

Strong interest in guidance and certification

The December 2020 survey shows a real interest for such a guide.

19770-10

And, with more organisations implementing ITAM and aligning it to ISO 19770, the natural follow-on question to ask is, would you be interested in having your organisation certified against the standard?

19770-1 Certification

The ITAM Forum, a global, not-for-profit trade body for the advance of ITAM, launched in 2020 with one of its objectives to create – and be a caretaker of – the world’s first, globally-recognised and independent ISO 19770 certification scheme so organisations can verify the quality of their ITAM processes and improve them to deliver even more business value.

With the growing importance of ITAM as a function and the increasing board-level exposure and scrutiny of ITAM teams, certification can be a key enabler to developing the ITAM profession and turning ITAM into the de facto business practice it deserves to be. This, however, is dependent on more and more organisations implementing ITAM and aligning to 19770, which is why this implementation guide is so key.
